How to Take Care of Dentures?

How to Fix One Crooked Tooth Without Braces

Dentures are an excellent option for replacing natural teeth. When many of our patients start using dentures, one of their first questions is how they can take care of their dentures.

Caring for Your Dentures

Just because dentures aren’t natural teeth, it doesn’t mean that they shouldn’t be cared for like they are real. Actually, you have to take more care of them than you would your natural teeth. The following are some tips on how to care for your dentures from your dentist in Simi Valley.

  • Remove your dentures after you eat and rinse them clean.
  • Always handle your dentures carefully because dropping them could cause them to break.
  • Be sure to clean your mouth as well after you eat. You can do this by rinsing with mouth wash.
  • Brush your dentures with a toothbrush and toothpaste at least once a day.
  • Soak your dentures overnight.
  • Rinse your dentures every month after they soaked overnight, especially if you use a denture-soaking solution.
  • See your dentist in Simi Valley regularly for checkups.
  • If the dentures become loose, call your Simi Valley dentist for an adjustment.

The most important thing you should remember is that dentures are delicate and should be handled with care. Treat them with mild solutions, and be sure to keep them as clean as possible.

What NOT to Do with Your Dentures?

We want to let you know that dentures are sensitive, so they cannot be cleaned in certain ways.

  • Never use abrasive cleaning materials.
  • Don’t use whitening toothpaste when you brush them each day.
  • You should never use bleach to clean your dentures.
  • Remove any metal attachments when soaking them as they can tarnish and corrode.
  • Warm water is best for soaking dentures because hot water can warp them.

Be gentle but thorough with your denture cleaning. This way, you’ll get as much life as possible from them.
